Christmas in July at Gaia Group

With summer heating up, thoughts of colder months ahead can offer a welcome reprieve. A funny little event, the celebration of Christmas in July first appeared at a girl’s summer camp in 1933 where they exchanged presents under a tree and even had a visit from Santa. The summer camp received some press about their annual event and the idea began to circulate among churches. In 1940 a movie of the same name brought the concept into the national consciousness.

Though holiday time is actually half the calendar away, retailers also spend their summers thinking about and preparing for the big sales events at the end of the year. As part of mid-year planning for the holidays, Gaia Group’s holiday product lineup was shown at last month’s International Housewares Association’s Inspired Home Housewares for the Holidays event, held at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York. The event “provided a sense of what consumers may expect for the end-of-year shopping season, with a focus on colorful housewares to enliven celebrations throughout the year, especially those involving food and drink.”
